Health and Wellness
The incidence of high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, obesity and other nutrition-related diseases is elevated in socio-economically disadvantaged and Hispanic populations, including those who participate with Sunday Friends. We believe child development can be negatively impacted in both school and life when their own and and their parents' health is compromised. We teach health and nutrition so families can make changes in their habits and make informed, budget-friendly decisions when it comes to their food choices.
Professionals from community health clinics and collaborating nonprofits regularly bring additional health services into our programs at no cost to our members. These services include but are not limited to glucose, dental, hearing, and vision screenings. We also make referrals to trusted partners so that members can enroll for health insurance, CalFresh and appointments at affordable clinics.
