Join us for our annual Holiday Shopping Spree!

History of the Holiday Shopping Spree: Started in 2003, the Holiday Shopping Spree (HSS) was created to stock our store with gifts for the holidays. This tradition, which was paused from 2019-2023, provided families an opportunity to create meaningful holiday memories. Children, rewarded for their participation in our educational programs, can proudly choose gifts for their parents. Parents, in turn, can select presents for their children with confidence, knowing they've earned them through hard work and achievement.

The Holiday Shopping Spree is one of the key parts of our Learn. Serve. Earn. model, serving as one of the major rewards families receive for their active participation all year long.

For those of you who are new to HSS, here’s the process:

  1. Assemble a team (at least 2 people)

  2. Name your team

  3. Fundraise: Set a fundraising goal, as high as you are comfortable with, per person

  4. Gather with us at Target on December 5th, between 5 & 8 PM (Note: Once your team is created, we’ll email you a form where you can choose your mission and let us know your preferred arrival time. Times are staggered to keep the event running smoothly.)

  5. Get assigned a mission: (baby toys, boy/girls’ toys, gifts for teens, gifts for mom & dad)

  6. Search the store for the best gifts

  7. Meet back at the registers to check out and award prizes

All year, Sunday Friends families have been hard at work in classes and activities, developing their skills, equipping themselves to achieve economic mobility. While participating in these opportunities, families receive basic necessities and other goodies throughout the year, but the holidays can be extra challengingThe Holiday Shopping Spree is an opportunity for you to partner with us to put Kindness Into Action this holiday season and recognize the consistent self-improvement and learning that families are diligently investing in at Sunday Friends.

What if I can’t make it to the shop?

We know it’s not always easy to gather a team and shop on a specific day — and sometimes, your schedule just doesn’t allow for it. But you can still be part of the excitement!

If you can’t join us in person, consider becoming a Virtual Shopper. Virtual Shoppers are generous donors who help make the Holiday Shopping Spree possible by contributing online. Your gift goes directly toward purchasing holiday items for families, spreading joy even if you can’t be there in person.

Where is the Holiday Shopping Spree

  • TARGET - We will be hosting the Holiday Shopping Spree at the Target at the Plant Shopping Center. 2161 Monterey Rd, San Jose, CA 95125

  • When? - Volunteers will arrive at predetermined times between 5 & 8 PM. Leading up to the event, Sunday Friends staff will assign a time and mission to your team. If you have time restrictions, please send an email to andy@sundayfriends.org

When is the Gift Distribution?

Sunday Friends will distribute all gifts collected through the Holiday Shopping Spree (or otherwise) on December 14th. If you prefer to shop for gifts on your own, we will be collecting donations in the office starting on December 5th, up until the December 14th distribution.

Where is the Gift Distribution?

  • DROP-OFF LOCATION - Donated gifts should be dropped off at our office located within the Franklin McKinley School District Building at 645 Wool Creek Drive, Second Floor, Suite A, San Jose, CA 95112.
